Siderit PX Cask: 2026 World’s Best Rye.
Following the 19th annual World Whiskies Awards (WWA), as reported on May 3, 2026, Siderit PX Cask Rye has officially disrupted the global whiskey hierarchy. This craft expression from Cantabria, Spain, outperformed established competitors from multiple nations to be crowned the World’s Best Rye.
Technical Innovation and Maturation Details
- Small-Format Casks: Distilled from 100% malted rye, the spirit was aged for eight years and five months in 100-liter Spanish white oak casks.
- Previous Wine Maturation: A critical factor in its success was the use of casks that were previously seasoned with Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry. This seasoning allows the whiskey to absorb deep, dark fruit and sugar profiles embedded in the wood.
- Enhanced Interaction: The 100-liter format is significantly smaller than the standard 225-liter barrels, accelerating the interaction between the rye spirit and the sherry-soaked wood.
- Specifications: The final product is bottled at 46.8% ABV.
Sensory Analysis (Official WWA Tasting Notes)
- Nose: Dominant notes of chocolate and honeycomb.
- Palate: A smooth progression of white chocolate, honey, and nougat, balanced by ginger, cinnamon, and turmeric.
- Finish: A warm, balanced conclusion with lingering notes of ginger.
Valuation and Market Scarcity (As of May 2026)
- Global Availability: Only 174 bottles exist worldwide.
- Official Launch Price (SRP): $240 USD.
- Investment Outlook: Secondary market valuation is expected to trade at a significant premium due to its top-tier status and minuscule bottle count.
