Filliers Family Reserve 34YO: Belgium’s Oldest Whisky
Belgian family-owned distillery Filliers has officially released its oldest expression to date: a 34-year-old single grain whisky. This historic spirit was laid down in 1992 by Louis Filliers in a single American white oak cask. The release is highly significant as it marks the final cask produced during Louis’ career and the last ever created by the family’s fourth generation.
A Legacy of Refinement
- Strategic Shift: Alongside his brother Carlos Filliers, Louis pivoted the distillery away from its agricultural roots toward the production of refined, aged spirits.
- Honoring Vision: This limited release honors Louis’ pivotal role in shaping the modern Filliers Distillery, serving as a unique milestone in the family’s heritage.
- Composition: The whisky is crafted from a blend of corn, rye, and malt.
- Maturation: It was aged for 34 years before being bottled in January 2026 at a robust 52.3% ABV.
Tasting Profile
- Nose: The expression presents distinct aromas of smoked hazelnuts and apricot.
- Palate: It offers complex notes of spice, soft tannins, freshly cut wood, and elderflower.
Exclusivity and Availability
- Limited Production: Only 111 bottles have been produced, making this the oldest whisky from the distillery and currently the oldest Belgian whisky available on the market.
- Official Unveiling: The whisky was unveiled on March 9, 2026, at an event at the Filliers Distillery, featuring a menu designed by renowned Belgian chef Benoît Dewitte.
- Where to Buy: The release is available at select retailers and at Brussels Airport while stocks last.
The Filliers Portfolio
The 34-year-old joins a diverse range of spirits in the Filliers whisky portfolio:
- Signature Single Malt: Aged in first-fill Bourbon casks.
- Special Editions: Includes Pedro Ximénez Cask Strength and 10- and 15-year-old single malts.
- Innovative Finishes: In 2025, the distillery launched the Master Distiller Selection Orange Cask whisky, which was finished in traditional Andalusian Vino de Naranja casks.
